n recent years, the debate over underage fashion models has reached a fever pitch. Ondria Hardin starred in a sultry Prada ad at 13. An Australian modeling agency recently announced that it wanted 13-year-olds because 16-year-olds were too old. And a good number of preadolescents are establishing their modeling bona fides, including the tween daughters of Cindy Crawford and of former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher. Last year, in a satirical look at girl models that wound up less high-minded than exploitative, Vogue Paris featured a 10-year-old named Thylane Blondeau in full makeup, heels, and a navel-bearing dress.

You can be stylish and powerful, too. That's Michelles advice. -- President Obama telling graduates to temper but preserve their interest in clothing during his commencement address at Barnard College, a women-only college of New Yorks Columbia University. It has taken months of bad news, but Democrats increasingly believe that President Obama might just lose his re-election bid. The latest wake-up call comes in the form of a New York Times/CBS poll showing Republican Mitt Romney in the lead not just among registered voters overall, but with women and independents.
Who Killed Men's Hats?

... So what happened? Why did guys stop wearing headgear in midcentury America? The turning point, most people say, was John F. Kennedy's inauguration. Before Kennedy, all presidents wore top hats on their first day at work. Kennedy brought one, but hardly ever put it on. Fashionistas say Kennedy, one of our most charismatic presidents, made hats un-happen. And, chronologically speaking, after JFK, guys everywhere, even balding ones like astronaut John Glenn, went topless. But I am the son of a hat designer. And my father, Allen S. Krulwich, had a different explanation. The president who de-hatted America, he thought,...
Hairstyling pioneer Vidal Sassoon dies at 84 in LA

Vidal Sassoon used his hairstyling shears to free women from beehives and hot rollers and give them wash-and-wear cuts that made him an international name in hair care. When he came on the scene in the 1950s, hair was high and heavy typically curled, teased, piled and shellacked into place. Then came the 1960s, and Sassoon's creative cuts, which required little styling and fell into place perfectly every time, fit right in with the fledgling women's liberation movement. Sassoon died Wednesday at age 84 at his home on Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles, police spokesman Kevin Maiberger said. Officers...
America, I am in Your Debt

To have been given so muchopportunity, life, and libertyby a country I cherish, and to see it now potentially deteriorate economically, culturally, and politically into the very system that my parents risked their lives to escape, pains me. The torment of watching my mother ingest her own wedding band, though compelling, is no match for the agony I now feel as I watch and listen to the naïveté of a segment of ideologically imbued Americans paint the country I love as the worlds enemy. They relish in casting the U.S.A. as a force of evil and tyranny, while the truth...

I need a yarn source- metallic "sparkle" yarn

I've got a very successful westernwear product that my company manufactures in the United States. Sparkle is very popular and even a necessity with at least some of the line. Our customer is thrilled with the work we've done and is in the process of greatly expanding the line. They can't keep it in stock. The problem is, we cannot locate a better metallic yarn than just your standard Lurex. It's scratchy, yarn breaks are a problem during manufacturing, so profitability takes a hit whenever we use it. We've tried coverd nylon, no improvement. We've tried importing sheen yarn, but...

| If a fashion writer for French Elle is to be believedand she is notAfrican-Americans weren't stylish until the Obama family came into office. "For the first time, the chic has become a plausible option for a community so far pegged [only] to its street wear codes," writes Nathalie Dolivo in a post translated from the magazine's website titled 'Black Fashion Power.' And if this sweeping stereotyping and flat-out ignorance weren't already off base, Dolivo goes on to explain why the so-called Obama renaissance of style is so "chic." | They were once considered quite handsome -- those bulky Christmas sweaters adorned with reindeer, shiny snowflakes and even lights. If you grew up in the 70's or 80's your parents probably have at least one picture of you and your siblings all decked out in a matching set. Probably turtlenecks, if your parents were especially cruel. Those hideous sweaters disappeared for a while, but they've made an ugly comeback in recent years. And you can blame Nancy Schloetel, at least in part. The next time you see someone sporting a Christmas sweater with an Elmo doll, Mariners logo or trio... |
